Violinist Stephan Tieszen is delighted to rejoin the New Britain Symphony as concertmaster for the 2021-2022 season. Dr. Tieszen has a DMA from Yale School of Music, an MM from the Juilliard School and BS from Mannes College of Music. He has studied with Gabrial Banat, Sydney Harth, Jaap Schroeder, Sally Thomas, Guila Bustabo and Mischa Mischakoff, as well as members of the Tokyo and Juilliard quartets.He is also concertmaster of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, Opera Theater Connecticut, Salt Marsh Opera and is principal second violin of the New Haven Symphony. He taught for many years at Mannes College and Mannes prep and had been on violin faculty at University of Connecticut, Connecticut College, and Fairfield University. He has given master classes at Juilliard pre-college and the Meadowmount School and currently teaches at Southbury Music Studio and Coaches Violins for Norwalk Youth Southbury. Dr. Tieszen is an active soloist and chamber musician and plays with the New Britain Symphony Beatles Quartet, the New Haven Symphony Fellowship Harmony Quartet and the Wall Street Chamber players. He also plays period instruments and has been principal violin of the Arcadia players and specializes in the music of Mozart and classical style.Dr. Tieszen is a frequent lecturer and participates in education programs across the state for all ages. He will also be featured at our April 7th Mainstage Concert playing “American Rhapsody” by Grammy award winning composer Kenneth Fuchs.
