Christopher Swist was a drum prodigy and started lessons with Buffalo Philharmonic percussionist John Rowland at age 6. He continued studies through graduate school with Jan Williams, Anthony Miranda, Alexander Lepak, Benjamin Toth, and Glen Velez.
Swist is a prolific composer and has 15 publications with Alfred Music, Studio 4 Music, Keyboard Percussion Publications, Edition Svitzer, and Bachovich Music. His music has been performed by The Louisville Orchestra, Hartford SymphonyOrchestra, American Modern Ensemble, Grupo PIAP, YoungArts, and the United States Military Academy. He has 2 full length CD’s of acoustic and electronic music: Whitewater of 2001 and Duality of 2013.
Christopher Swist has been the principal percussionist of the New Britain Symphony Orchestra since 1998 and performs with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. He tours worldwide and gives solo recitals in his unique brand as a performer/composer who plays both acoustic and electronic music.
Swist is also a recording engineer and editor with Albany Records, MSR Music, and Magna Carta Records. Professor Swist is a Resident Artist of Keene State College and has taught percussion, music technology, composition, and music theory since 2003. He has also taught at The Hartt School, Bennington College, Holyoke Community College, and Franklin Pierce University.
