Mini Series Begins with Polka Ensemble on Oct. 18

 

 

The New Britain Symphony Orchestra will begin its 69th season on Oct. 18  with  Polka Ensemble, a free mini-concert celebrating  the polka: its history ,  traditions, and  place in American music.   The concert will be performed by  Walter Mamlok on clarinet, Michael Schiano,  accordion, David Schweitzer,  tuba, and David Edricks, percussion.

 

The program will include:

Beer Barrel Polka

Clarinet Polka

Helena Polka

Liechtensteiner Polka

Pennsylvania Polka

Domino Polka

 

along with other gems, like The Woodpecker Song (an Italian polka)  and the Laughing Polka, plus a few waltzes along the way.

New Britain Symphony president Sylvia O’Reilly, said that the orchestra is delighted to be celebrating  the polka and its strong ties to New Britain.  “ The Polish community is such a vital and vibrant  part of our community that we are thrilled to be presenting a program  of its most popular music.
